The construction works for the rehabilitation of the Skenderbej square
have turned into political pretexts, which has caused blocked works and
increased costs for the taxpayers.

The citizens have paid 16 million EUR for this, 5 of which were invested when Edi Rama was Mayor.

After it was blocked by the Democratic Party, when Lulzim Basha was Mayor, he spent another 1 million on it.

Now with Mayor Erion Veliaj, back to the SP, the project is being realized with another 10 million EUR.

Less than two weeks before the inauguration, the Skenderbej square seems almost complete.

“The underground parking has room for 300 cars, even electric chargers. There is an elevator for the people with special needs. One of the stores will be used for fairs and traditional markets”, says Gent Agolli, supervisor.

The recently planted trees are also an important part of the green space in Albania’s capital, while the stone tiles of the square are taken from all of Albania. 140 water fountains will help with the summer heat, while the tiles are in a higher level, so that all buildings around can be seen.

The 23.000 square meter area will also be used for cultural, artistic and social activities.
