Balkan tensions shifted more EU attention on the region

International law experts and connoisseurs of EU integration procedures,
think that the recent developments in Western Balkan have pushed the EU
to pay more attention to the region.
Some of them are quoted by Radio Free Europe of saying that the meeting organized this Wednesday with Balkan leaders by the EU High Representative of Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini, shows that their only perspective is the EU, and that the deep economic, political and legal reforms which they need to undertake, are the only way to orient their countries towards the final goal, which is EU membership.
Diplomatic circles have discussed recently the need of the EU to shift more attention towards Balkan. One of the reasons is the huge potential for another conflict, warned by the increased nationalistic rhetoric, and also the Russian efforts to increase their influence in the region.
