Montenegro Parliament ratifies historic NATO accession

The Parliament of Montenegro passed this Friday the NATO accession, a
historic turn towards West, despite several protests from Russia and the
pro-Russian opposition.

The MPs voted unanimously and applauded the result. Montenegro has a 2000-troops army, but they have a very important geographic position strategically, which gives NATO total control of the Adriatic, since Albania, Croatia and Italy are all NATO members.

A few weeks ago, Montenegro officially accused Russia of hiding behind an attempted cop, which aimed to bring down Djukanovic’s government and stop the country from entering NATO, but Cremlin rejected these accusations.

The current Prime Minister, Dusko Markovic, told lawmakers that the NATO accession was a guarantee for the future and security of Montenegro, economic progress and regional stability.

“This Parliament and its members have the historic privilege to take a decision that will be remembers for as long that there will be Montenegro and montenegrins”, Markovic said.
