Russia takes economic measures against Montenegro, after NATO accession

Montenegro will approve this Friday their NATO accession, despite the Russian efforts to stop them.

Moscow has already taken measures by stopping the import of wine from Montenegro, although the reason they claimed was related to health certifications.

Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic said that this is a clear political move of Russia, which imports 20% of its wine from Montenegro.

Montenegro started the efforts to join NATO in 2009, one decade after the alliance bombed Serbian forces even in their country.

The NATO accession continues to be contradictory in the small Balkan country, which declared independence from Serbia only in 2006.

Serbia and Montenegro were both bombed by NATO in 1999, and the Serbian influence is still strong.
