Stratsfor: “Russia is preparing chaos in Balkan”

Russia is preparing chaos in Balkan, warns the US private intelligence
agency, Strategic Forecasting, which works with geopolitical analyses
and forecasts.

Stratsfor makes a detailed analyze of the situation, and concludes that Moscow will take advantage of the political divergences in the region, an area that has traditionally been a base for international power competitions.

Russia, according to Stratsfor, will try to extend its influence in Serbia, Northern Kosovo, Montenegro and Macedonia.

Russia may project a series of crises which may be very challenging for the West, while their influence in Serbia has clearly increased.

Now that Kosovo is flirting with the idea that their Security Forces could easily turn into a proper army, the relations with Serbia will face another break down. If the situation continues, Russia will take advantage to create a full stalemate on terrain, according to Stratfor.

The agency mentions that the same thing was attempted very recently in Montenegro, whose government accused Russian security forces of plotting the assassination of Milo Djukanovic just before the October elections, hoping to divert Montenegro’s NATO accession efforts.

As for Macedonia, Stratsfor says, it has been under an intensive disinformation campaign from Moscow.
