Election Commission votes against Prosecutor demands to end Mayors mandates

Central Election Commission has overruled the Prosecutor’s request to end mandates for two Mayors, Adriatik Zotkaj dhe Tërmet Peçi.

All 4 majority representatives in the commission voted against the Prosecutor demands while the opposition members were not present in the meeting where the fates of Mayors from Poliçan and Tepelena were decided.

General Prosecutor’s office argued Mr. Zotkaj and Mr. Peçi had not declared convictions on filling decriminalization application. Even though the crimes committed were not cause for the mandate termination, non-declaration was sufficient to proceed.

But the Central Election Commission decided not to end their mandate and also said it will examine once again all applications delivered after the official deadline, from 21 MPs and Mayors from the majority and opposition parties.
