Minister of Finances: “We reached our economic objectives with IMF”

The Minister of Finances, Arben Ahmetaj, said that the program with the
International Monetary Fund has reached its economic objectives.

“We had a 3.4% growth of the GDP in 2016. Today we have a stable fiscal consolidation”, Minister Ahmetaj declared.

The Minister of Finances added that the IMF mission has encouraged the entire government program and will continue to be an important partner for Albania.

“2016 was the first year when we reduced the debt, and this tendency will continue in 2017”, Ahmetaj said, adding that the government reforms must continue.

The IMF representative for Albania said that the structural reforms are on a right track. “We are ready to help Albania even in the future”, she said.

The Bank of Albania Governor, Gent Sejko, said that the internal debt is decreasing, thanks to the program.

“The economic development perspective also is positive, and the monetary policy will continue to be stimulating”, Sejko added.
