Although government institutions have taken several measures against the
hygienic conditions in which butchers kill their animals and sell meat,
these measures have not been implemented everywhere.

Top Channel’s investigative program, “Fiks Fare”, took a closer look to the conditions meat is sold from cities like Tirana, to smaller towns like Lac, Milot and Peshkopia. Same as one year ago, in most of the cases, meat is sold without being inspected by health institutions.

The cameras of Fiks Fare showed how animals were killed on road sides or house yards, and meat was then sold without inspection stamps.

After verifying several similar cases in many areas, Fiks Fare’s journalsits visited the Peshkopia Municipality, where the Chief Veterinarian said they had found butchers and shops selling uncontrolled meat, but it wasn’t their competence to take measures against them.

Fiks Fare also asked questions to the Healh Director of Peshkopia, who said they seek help from the municipality and police during holidays. “This is all we can cover”, the Director says, adding they will take measures as soon as they verify similar cases.
