Government suspends Bankers’ oil drilling after earthquake complaints

After Zharrez residents complained of earthquakes caused by oil drilling
techniques used by the Bankers Petroleum company, the Minister of
Energy ordered an immediate interruption of any procedure that involves
injecting technological water in wells around this village.

The news was announced and distributed by the Minister of Energy and Industry on December 26th.

Prime Minister Edi Rama ordered this Tuesday the establishing of a ministerial group for evaluating the situation in the area and for taking all measures needed for repairing damages.

The group in question will be led by Deputy PM Niko Peleshi and will have representatives from the Ministries of Environment, Industry and Interior.

The group will be assisted by experts from the National Agency of Natural Resources, the Geological Service and from the Institution of Geoscience, Energy, Water and environment.
