The US Ambassador, Donald Lu, said there is no plan B for the vetting
law and the justice reform. It is one and only: implementation.

“There are two options, before the Court decides. The Court decides to admit the law, which means that the government and the Parliament will implement it, with the support of international observers. The second option, the Court may verify that the law has problems and may require changes. They will have to send it to Parliament again, and my hope is that the Parliament will make those changes and pass the law soon”, Lu said.

The ambassador also addressed citizens who were concerned about the implementation of this reform, by even quoting a movie:

“There is no going back. This reform cannot change. Our international partners work beside Albanian citizens to make sure there will be a good implementation of the reform. There is a movie I like a lot, Apollo 13, which says: Failure is not an option”, Lu declared.

The US Ambassador spoke for the first time even for cannabis:

“Guardia di Finanza has concluded that the cultivation has increased during the past years. The Albanian government must work harder. As a foreign partner, I think we should do more. Allow me to list some of the things that the USA are currently doing. The DEA is working closely with the Albanian authorities to arrest drug traffickers, big fishes. We are focused on those who traffic heroine and cocaine through this”, Lu declared.

As for the ministers of this cabinet, Lu said: “From 1 to 10, to some of the Ministers of this government I would give 10, to others zero. This government is making a very important work with the reform, but one part of the government is disappointing the people by not meeting their expectancies”, Lu said.
