PM Rama: “Himara has always been Albanian”

The Albanian PM, Edi Rama, has sent an indirect message for Greece, to
distance themselves from declarations about the properties in Himara.

Prime Minister’s post:

“This old image of Athens in 1670, a city of which, as written by the Greek Prince “Eugene Rizo-Rangabe”, the autochthonous population is still mainly Albanian, reminds us that the ancient Acropolis is still standing also thanks to humanity and civility, and this is due to the courge and vision of the Albanian leader of Athens, Gjergj Dushmani, who in 1686 negotiated with the Venetian Fleet of Francesco Morosini to not bomb the city from the Falera shores, although there was the Turkish garnison.

This is the story of a city that used to be mainly Albanian speaking. It doesn’t make the city Albanian, although Athens owes Albanians its extraordinary history. And in the same way, if Himara took Greek as its main language because of the maritime exchanges, it doesn’t make it a Greek region, especially for the fact that its population has always been known of being only Albanian.
