Blushi leaves SP with a letter after waste import debate

MP Ben Blushi decided to officially abandon the Socialist Party, after
20 years of membership. In a written letter, Blushi says that what made
him make this decision final was the broken promise of PM Edi Rama with
the waste import.

Blushi says “the Parliamentary rubbish bin hides the decay of our polluted democracy”, Blushi says, by also analyzing the stances held by the three main parties regarding the waste law, which has changed for each of them depending on when they were in power and when in opposition.

What Blushi does not say in that letter, is that the waste import issue is not new, but it has started in 2004, when Ben Blushi himself, together with two other Ministers of the Nano cabinet, signed a memorandum that would allow the government to import waste from Italy and burn them in Albania through an implant that was supposed to be built in Kashar.

Blushi appeared on talk shows even by then, but not to oppose the import. He was explaining the negotiations for the concession terms.

The concessionary agreement signed by the then Minister Blushi was not finalized, and was opposed with protests by the civil society and the then opposition.

But now, after 12 years, Blushi is attacking the DP too, accusing them of doing the same game as Edi Rama and trying to make the referendum fail, even though they are in opposition with the majority.

“This is the vilest way to sabotage a cause, and the DP doesn’t need to think long before pulling the old and consumed dirty tricks out of their rusted case”, Bushi writes.

Blushi doesn’t explain if he will hand over the mandate as MP, if he will create a new party or if he will withdraw from politics.
