State police demands local authorities take immediate measures to insure proper conditions for tourists in the seaside. Head of Border Police, Genc Merepeze, said that Municipalities do not cooperate and often neglect communication with law enforcement entities.

“There are no corridor barriers for entertainment water vessels, there are no barriers up to 300 meters from the shore to delimit the swimming area, as a imposed by a government decision. We have sent complaints not only in Himara, but also Vlora, Saranda, Pogradec, Durrws and also Shkodra, but frankly there has been no response”, Merepeza said.

Border police patrols have seized numerous unlicensed water vehicles and have also punished those who have violated sailing regulations during the summer season. “Border police have intervened 76 times during this season, saving 130 peoples’ lives from drowning. This stubborn data show we are doing our job”, Merepeze added.
