The Court of Tirana suspended today the Chief of Police, Haki Cako,
after a request made by the Prosecution for an illegal entrance of a
spying equipment.

Cako is accused of power abuse, for not taking measures to guarantee a legal entrance of this equipment which bypassed customs and did not receive the respective authorization of the Prosecutor General.

Cako denied that the equipment (IMSI Catcher) was used for illegal surveillance. The Prosecution issued “house arrest” orders for the Chief of Operational Forces of the State Police, Artion Duka, and specialist Ention Xhelilaj.

“The officials are accused of obstructing truth. Investigations show that the equipment has been moved twice by Ention Xhelilaj”, according to the official announcement.

The Tirana Prosecution is holding investigations to prove other officials who may be involved.
