The conflict between the President of Albania and the Mayor of Tirana
has ended up in Court. The President held a press conference, especially
for the cases regarding to Erion Veliaj.

The first concern of the Albanian President was related to a declaration of the Mayor of Tirana, in which he accused the President as a thief.

“I believe that Albanians cannot have a thief as President. Justice must prove the accusation and identify the President as a thief, and sentence him accordingly, or sentence the man who slanders the state of Albania. This is a path with no return”, Nishani said.

The second concern of the Albanian President is related to what he called “a terror attack” against judges.

“The second case is yesterday’s violent attack, organized by the Mayor of Tirana and other individuals, against the Court of Administrative Appeal. The attack was clearly to terrorize judges, something that we condemn very harshly. The attack was organized, politically motivated in favor of the constitutional and independent power”, he said.

Months ago on Top Channel’s “Top Story”, the President said he was aware that his family was under surveillance, but he did not trust the independence of the justice institutions. When asked by Top Channel if he had changed his stance about the justice system, the President denied it.

“I have not changed my stance. I stand to the opinion that the justice system needs a reform”, he said.
