Government agreement with Strasbourg, PM Rama: “No more lawsuits against Albania”

The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, declared this Thursday, in
Parliament, that the Strasbourg Court has suspended the review of new
lawsuits filed by owners against the Government of Albania.

The government has reached an agreement with this Court, which has entered in effect together with the new property law.

“This delay gave Albania a new financial bill to pay, but the law is now effective, and the Court will not review any new case”, Rama declared.

According to him, the IMF has considered the property issue as the biggest danger for the financial stability in our country, and requested an urgent solution.

“We found the solution. It is not the ideal solution, but it is the best that we could do”, Rama said.

But the Republican Party leader, Fatmir Mediu, said that the new law is anti-constitutional and denies some rights to property owners.

The President challenged the new property law at the Constitutional Court and demanded its suspension, but the request was denied.
