Justice Minister: “Tomorrow starts the property compensation”

Today’s government meeting focused on the property return process, and old and painful process in the Albanian history.
The Property Treatment Agency is tasked to implement three government decisions that Justice Minister, Ylli Manjani, commented as the “most serious offer that the state of Albania has ever offered to former owners”.
Minister Manjani said that the property return will start tomorrow at 08:00, a total of 24 million EUR, the biggest so far used for this purpose.
But what will happen with the other decisions that were issued, but were never implemented?
The minister said that the Agency of Property Return and Compensation has issued 26.000 decisions, but no one has ever continued to evaluate their economic status. “These decisions will start being treated starting from tomorrow. All owners will be notified publicly and individually”, Manjani said.
The government has prepared 23.000 hectares of agricultural land to use as compensation for all land owners. 11.000 citizens have not been compensated yet, while for properties occupied by illegal constructions, the government will start the compensation for 70% of it, the 30% will be given by the end of the mandate.
