The High Council of Justice elected the new President of the Court of
Appeal with eight votes in favor. Hysni Demiraj competed for this post
against the former President, Alaudin Malaj, whose mandate had expired,
and against Gramoz Lavanaj.

The President and Chairman of the High Council of Justice, Bujar Nishani, was not present in the voting for the new President of the Court of Appeal.

One day ago, the former President of the Court of Appeal, Alaudin Malaj, asked Minister Manjani and the HCJ to suspend their member, Gjin Gjoni, accused of conflict of interest.

This request was accepted by the HCJ member himself, who withdrew from the voting. After this, Hysni Demoraj won with eight votes in favor and two against. Later, the High Council of Justice chose the names of six judges from the Administrative Court of Appeal: Floralba Prifti, Enkeleda Softa, Bari Shyti, Bernina Kondi, Arjan Qafa and Amarildo Laci.

The HCJ also voted in favor of the return in duty of the Judge of Sokol Pasho, who so far has served as Director of Codification at the Ministry of Justice.
