International Studies Institution opened the May 8th local election poll, focusing on the pre election climate and the voters’ expectance.

According to Mr. Albert Rakipi, General Director of this institution, the main goal of this poll that has questioned 1250 persons in 10 different cities, is their local election perception.

Only 34.7% answered “yes” to the question if the elections will be free and honest. 28.8% think that the elections will not be free and honest, while 37% cannot give an exact opinion.

This poll discovers an interesting fact, the reason why a candidate is voted, when their qualities are promoted more than their programs.

Only 23% of the participants give their vote basing it to the program. 34.6% base it to the qualities of the candidate, and 31.1% relate the candidate with his party.

The local government work in the last four years has not taken good votes. The “very satisfied” are only 11.5% and the satisfied are 22.5%.

The relations between central and local governments, filled with mutual accusations, haven’t gone past the citizen’s attention. 58% of the participants declare that their relations are bad, and 38% think that their relations are very good.

As for their problems, the participants trust more their deputy than the city Mayor. The do not hesitate to ask help from Prime Minister Berisha, 4% of whom admit to have asked his help, and from the opposition leader, who has been contacted by 8.8%.
