The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said that the residents who are affected by the construction of the Tirana ring Road will be expropriated completely. Those who have built without permission, will have three years of paid rent by the government.
Veliaj gave this message on the International Day of Children, addressing his speech to them:
“There is no reason why 1% of the population can live in three-store buildings, even eight, in some cases, which is built on someone else’s land. If your parents start their family by renting a house, taking a loan and keep paying it until you get older. I am very happy that some of the residents have understood that politicians are using them, and they started registering for the expropriation. This is good news”, he said.
Veliaj added that the traffic in Tirana will be relieved by the construction of the Greater Tirana Ring Road. He underlined that the protesting citizens and being misused by political parties in the opposition.
