The Municipality of Tirana and the World Bank will cooperate to increase social centres for the citizens in need.

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, and the Country Manager of the World Bank for Albania, Maryam Salim, served a dinner for dozens of people at the social centre “Gonxhe Bojaxhiu”.

The Municipality of Tirana has opened seven centres which offer several services.

The Mayor underlined that many of the policies that were carried out with the World Bank were translated into concrete initiatives helping the people in need.

The representative of the Bank of Albania for Albania, Maryam Salim, expressed their determination to keep cooperating with the Albanian institutions in order to reduce poverty.

Veliaj thanked everyone who keeps working at the social centres: “We appreciate your work very much, not only on holidays but for every day that you keep helping this community. Part of the strategy with the World Bank was not only to provide money for the people in need but also to have human interaction, such as social assistance and psychologists”, Veliaj said.
