Two masked persons on a moving motorbike opened fire with a silenced handgun towards the Tirana Construction Chief Inspector, Ardit Kaja.

The murder attempt took place around 9:30 am, at the “Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard”, near the premises of Ministry of Agriculture.

The criminals shot several times inside the vehicle, fortunately wounding only one leg of the victim with no threat for his life.

The driver of the Construction Inspection Office was also present inside the vehicle, and fortunately wasn’t hit.

The criminals left the crime scene on a motorbike, and the wounded Ardit Kaja was sent to the Tirana Military Hospital, where medics say that there is no danger for his life.

The crime scene investigators, based on preliminary data, say that the chief inspector was shot with a silenced handgun.

Ardit Kaja was yesterday on the centre of attention, after a conflict with Socialist Movement for Integration supporters, firstly at 15:00 and then again later that night, with Democratic Party supporters also getting involved.

After visiting him at the hospital, Mayor of Tirana, Edi Rama, said that Kaja is a public servant and who was shot for performing his duty.

“A public servant was shot in the middle of Tirana. In order to serve his duty, he dared to confront violence and thugs from the political force that has violated and polluted this city with their stolen money. No other European capital has political parties’ flags hanging out of trees and lamp posts”, Rama declared.

Tirana’s Vice Mayor appealed the State Police to solve this crime as soon and possible, and also demanded to the political forces to respect the law of political symbols during an electoral campaign.

“Shooting a person who works for the Mayor office is an alarm to all of us, starting with the Prime Minister, Interior Minister and the State Police. Tirana doesn’t belong to politics, but to the citizens”, Albana Dhimitri declared.

The investigations are also being held by representatives of State Police Serious Crimes Department and Tirana prosecutors.
