Tirana Lake, new lanes for bicycles and pedestrians

The Tirana Artificial Lake is having new running and bicycle lanes each day. Mayor Erion Veliaj inspected the work and underlined the importance of the transformation that the city is facing each day.

“I remember our first project at the Lake, the children playground. I remember those movements ‘don’t touch the park’. Now there is another movement ‘don’t touch the theater’. It is the same thing. How can we change things for good without touching them? This resistance against change is the spirit of those who keep using old phones with buttons, when today we can have smart-phones. My question today is: Are we going to modernize ourselves, or shall we be held down by some nostalgic fixations?”, Veliaj said.

He declared that the changes made at the Tirana Lake Park are the best way to show the positive change.

“Cities, including Tirana, have changed a lot. People used to complain that they had no park, no square, no boulevard, no modern theatres. When you start building them they say: ‘Don’t touch my old this and old that.’ This is just dark humour that doesn’t even make you laugh”, he said.

Veliaj underlined that the municipality is working fast with the project for building dedicated bicycle lanes. The Municipality’s intervention has doubled the Park’s area that is accessible to citizens.
