On the 73rd anniversary of the liberation of Albania’s capital from Nazi-Fascist occupiers, Mayor Erion Veliaj, Ministers, MPs, government representatives, members of the Municipal Council and dozens of veterans attended a ceremony to commemorate the day when thousands of young men and women sacrificed themselves for Tirana.

In sign of honor for the thousands who were part of the war, officials placed wreaths at the Unknown Soldier monument.

Mayor Erion Veliaj expressed his gratitude for the deeds of the men and women who gave their lievs to liberate the capital, and for the Tirana families who opened their doors to welcome fighters.

The Mayor said that every citizen should contribute in these days, working for the city, for the community and for a better future.

Veliaj said that the example of 73 years ago needs to be followed by the young boys and girls of this city today. “Our country needs these unknown heroes who sacrifice for the next generation to be more capable, more educated”, Veliaj said.
