Spahiu: Inspecting 150 judges

High Council of Justice (HCJ) and High Inspectorate of Declaration of Assets (HIDA) will investigate the expenses of 150 judges and their travels abroad.

Kreshnik Spahiu, vice chairman of HCJ, expressed harsh critics towards the judicial system regarding ethics, professionalism and judge’s irresponsibility, referring also to some decisions taken on house arrest cases.

“Firstly, I will demand the verification of house arrest measures, because this method has lost its function and practicability, and it is being treated as freedom. Secondly, I will demand HCJ to inspect the international travels of 150 judges, travels undertaken against the law”, Spahiu declared.

Spahiu pointed out that the judging solemnity brings certainty for fair, equal and impartial trials, and above all, restores the citizen’s faith to this institution.

Meanwhile, former Albanian President, Alfred Moisiu, blames politics for the actual situation.

“Politics is used to be the only one that decided and judged everything during the communist system. Politics is trying to keep this domination alive, despite the fact that we live in another system. Justice is the foundation of democracy. We are an infantile democracy, not yet grown up”, Moisiu declared.

Standards, ethics, its role in transparency and judge’s irresponsibility have been the focus of this meeting, supported by the American Embassy in Tirana.
