Socialists propose Parliament Regulation changes, guarantee against arrest of MPs

The Socialist Party Parliamentary Group presented propositions for changing the Parliament Regulation.

The current regulation allows the Prosecution to send an arrest order in Parliament for an MP, but Socialists propose that the Prosecution should also add evidence.

The debate about evidence was created after the arrest order issued for Saimir Tahiri. Socialists asked the Prosecution to prove that he was guilty. The opposition insisted that the Parliament is not a Court, that’s why reasonable doubt was enough for his arrest.

The new propositions of the Socialists give MPs the right to pose questions to the Prosecution, and the MPs are also allowed to present their own explanations.

This happened during the Tahiri case when the MP actually interrogated the Prosecutors.

The new propositions reduce the drafting time that the Council for Regulation uses before presenting the report at a parliamentary session regarding the regulation, mandates and immunity.

The Socialists also propose to make an open voting, which today is done in secrecy, which means that the suspected MPs will know the names of their colleagues who voted against or in favour of their arrest.

The Socialist Party has the 71 votes needed to change the regulation if changing the rules of the game, in general, was done with consensus.
