US Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, met the Albanian President Bamir Topi and the Opposition Leader Edi Rama.

According to the presidential press release, Arvizu expressed his support regarding the President’s institutional appeals and highlighted the need of respecting rule of law in such situations, in order to achieve the democratic standards and to consolidate the independent and constitutional institutions, enabling them this way to fulfill their legal obligations.

The Central Election Commission approved with only 4 votes the normative act of counting the ballots inserted in the wrong boxes.

In a government meeting, the Prime Minister Sali Berisha asked CEC to finalize the results for Tirana by acting as Zonal Election Commission of the Albanian Capital:

“The votes inserted in the wrong boxes must be counted because they are people’s will”, Berisha declared.

The Prime Minister warned that there will be grave consequences if CEC will be interrupted with their work.

Meanwhile, the situation that was created outside the CEC building, with SP deputies and supporters physically confronting the Police has calmed down. The Commission interrupted the meeting and only two CEC members remained in the room.

The Police cordon is still surrounding the building.
