No more sewage waters will be poured in the Shkoder Lake. A joint
project of the German, Austrian and Swiss governments, who have donated a 18
million EUR fund, aims to protect the Shkoder Lake environment, one of
the biggest lakes in Albania.

For the inauguration of this project that starts with the construction of an implant that will process polluted water, the German Minister of Economy, Dirk Niebel has arrived in Albania. Together with the Albanian Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, they placed the first bricks of the implant.

“The example of this project in Shkoder shows that by joining the financial means and experience offered by the donators, such a project can become successful. I hope and believe that the works of this project will end as soon as possible, in order to increase the life quality for the citizens of Shkoder”, the German Minister declared.

For the Albanian Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, this project is one of the many projects for cleaning polluted waters, an area in which Albania had significant backward conditions until a few years ago, when all polluted waters were poured into seas and lakes without being processed.

“This project is an additional value to the great program for the city of Shkdoer. Through this program we aim to make investments in three basic criteria: protecting the Shkoder citizens’ health and that of the many tourists that come in this wonderful city; protecting the Shkoder Lake and guaranteeing good neighboring relations with Montenegro through our clean waters”, Topalli declared.

The works of the 18 million EUR investments that are expected to end after two years, guarantee drinking water supply, canalizations and water that is cleaned according to EU and World Health Organization standards.
