Edi Rama, Socialist Party leader and candidate for the Municipality of
the Albanian capital, the city of Tirana, called today’s results “a
chain of victories”, greeting the victories that, according to him, the
Socialist Party has achieved in Democratic Party strongholds.

“Today’s victories have been spectacular and the chain of victories is growing longer. I thank the winner and I would like to mention the Socialist winner of Fushë Kruja. I am convinced that the citizens have made the right choice with Gjon Bardhi. I also congratulate the new Mayors of Divjake, Gjirokaster, Kelcyre, Memaliaj and Gramsh; municipalities withheld by our rivals for four years without a success; and also Ballsh, Tepelena, Erseka, Kruma and Permet; and the best surprise, Himara”, Rama declared.

According to the opposition leader, the Socialist Party has also won in Pogradec, Lushnje, Elbasan, Korçe and especially in Laç, the town that the Socialist take for the first time after 20 years, same as with some communes in the Shkoder district.

“Tomorrow there will be greater victories”, Rama added, after denouncing the “shameful actions” that his political rivals are making with Tirana and Durres.

At the same time, the Democratic Party candidate, Lulzim Basha, appeared in public right after his rival, accusing the Socialist Party of denying the official results that, according to him, are showing a narrower difference between both candidates.

Basha appealed for patience until the end of the vote counting process, expressing his conviction on victory.

“It is very disappointing the fact that the Socialist Party is devaluating the results that are favoring the Democratic Party. There are 180,000 votes still to be counted, and these votes must be counted with transparency. Based on the data that are being consolidated hour after hour, I have confidence that the much awaited victory in Tirana will be confirmed soon”, Basha declared.

The Democratic candidate expressed his gratitude towards the observers and vote counters who, according to him, have done a great job, full of devotion, in this important phase of the process.

“I thank the Democratic commissioners for the patience they have shown in the voting centers that favor the Socialist Party”, Basha added.
