Rama: My vision for Tirana

Mayor of Tirana, Edi Rama, visited Municipal Unit no.8 and explained in details what he calls “the vision for Tirana”.

Rama compared his development model with the model of the governing party, promising that in the ne next mandate he will be able to sensibly improve the value of the residences, businesses and quality of life for the Tirana citizens.

“Our development plan has an urban, social and economic concept that improves the quality of life and the city’s material value. This includes the suburb and the center, all over Tirana”, Rama declared.

“The best example is the 1 kilometer long promenade and the park at “Fusha e Aviacionit”. I will quote the words of a woman who lives there and thanked me for two things. She was grateful for having transformed the environment near her house from the mud that it was, to a relaxing green area, but also for the reason that in a few months, the value of her house will double in the market. Very soon, the “Skanderbeg” square will give a new value to the city, transforming it to one of most spectacular city centers in Balkan. This square will show our integrated project for an urban, economic and social development. Our vision is for a city that offers a diversity of possibilities for all ages, for all residents, a magnetic attractive force for a future that will create more investments, that will bring a new development cycle”, Rama emphasized.

Mentioning the model that the Mayor calls “Berisha’s model”, Rama added:

“Look at the Selita olive groves that are turning into apartment building hills. These building attract buyers today, but their investment value is questioned, because it is not an urban or social development. This development is typical to Berisha’s vision and method that aims instantaneous profits, but the consequences damage the quality of life. Look at the “Tirana e Re” area. On one side you see Tirana, and on the other side you see a territory with a truncated vision. Kashari, from an area with a potential urban development, is turning into a ghetto without kindergartens, without schools, without medical centers. This is the chaotic development that threatens the future of those who invest on that development and turn into self-imprisoned residents of those neighborhoods, without any possibility to turn it back tomorrow”.

Rama continued to accuse the model of the government, continuing the critics on “the lacking of vision”:

“Look at the coastline, from ‘Plepat’ to ‘Kavaja’. A new city of apartment building has been built. A complex that doesn’t offer any stable development for the future, and that has totally destroyed the potential that this touristic coastline offered. Our vision and Berisha’s vision get divided at the Lana River. Its vision is to cut trees and to raise chaotic buildings. His vision is ‘find a flatland and build something on it, cut inauguration ribbons and destroy.’ Today, the space of the Lana River serves to the quality of life. Ask the citizens about the current value of the homes and shops on both sides of the river. Ask Tirana citizens how much was the value of the same homes and shops, when the city territory was full of ugly kiosks in its center, and how much is its value today”, Rama emphasized.

According to him, Berisha’s model has stalled not only the prosperity of Tirana, but of all Albania.

“The highway that connects Tirana with Durrës is the example of the vision that Berisha perceives. Hundreds of buildings without a vision and that bring no stable development for the future.  This should have been the area that would have doubled Albania’s GDP, but it is transformed into a territory where everyone works for himself and God for all of them. Furthermore, there has been destroyed every possibility to transform this vast territory into a competing agricultural area. Inappropriate constructions have occupied more territory than they would occupy if they would have been built according to a plan. This is the difference between an integrated development model, conceived for the future, and the vision of cutting inauguration ribbons for electoral effect, with the problems of the investments starting to appear just the day after”, Rama said.
