Rama: Joint action plan with Merkel to attract donators

After meeting in Berlin with the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, gave an interview for Top Channel’s journalist, Muhamed Veliu.

Chancellor Merkel declared that Germany will attend the fundraising conference. What commitments did the chancellor take besides this?

The Chancellor is very keen on numbers, and I was impressed by the details she had about our damage assessment figures.

She is totally committed to supporting the fundraising conference not only as a participant. We agreed on an action plan to keep contacts with countries beyond the EU so that they can contribute.

You just said that the chancellor is well informed on the numbers. Was there any concrete figure about the help that Germany will offer to Albania?

We did not speak exactly about this. This process is connected to the final report that was drafted in cooperation with EU and WB experts, and which will become official on February 4th.

Also, in such processes, no one likes to reveal its cards beforehand. First, they prefer to see what others are offering.

Once again, the Chancellor expressed her support on the EU accession negotiations. What else did she say, since it was Macron who refused the green light last time?

The Chancellor is very determined to support the EU negotiation process. We discussed our operations against organized crime and the special law, which has now been finalized, thanks to our close cooperation with Euralius and OPDAT experts.

The chancellor mentioned the Western Balkan region in her press release. Did you discuss the Balkan Schengen as well in your meeting?

Of course, the Chancellor is very supportive of this process. We discussed that it will receive even bigger support. The fact that this initiative was taken by three countries is very significant.

It is not an exclusive initiative, but an all-inclusive one with our invitation extended to all countries.

The fact that at the end of the day this initiative only brings to life the Berlin Process agreement, makes the Chancellor even more encouraged and interested in the process.

The Chancellor understands and knows very well what a great step it was convincing Serbia to give up its veto on the free movement, which means a free movement of the people between Albania and Kosovo.

Unfortunately, they don’t want to understand this in Prishtina and they think this debate has turned into who is the traitor and who the patriot, without doing any favors to Kosovo.

The truth is they are hurting Kosovo, they are pushing away the great friends and partners. They are wrongfully staining the great reputation that Kosovo earned after receiving the right to be a free and sovereign people.

Therefore, we shall continue with the process. Of course, the encouragement from EU, Germany and the USA, will be to carry on with the process.

There’s a great significance in the recent encouragement that was brought in by Ambassador Grenell, who made the parties sit together with Belgrade, even KFOR, and sign a free airway movement with Prishtina.

This will be followed by a railway agreement and was rightfully welcomed even by those who keep throwing mud on a process encouraged by me, and which goes in the same direction.

I will take advantage to mention this, although it wasn’t directly part of the discussion with the Chancellor. It is regrettable that there is such hypocrisy. On one hand, they give a long, subservient smile, and on the other, they show the threatening teeth of provincial policy.

For just a few more votes and some temporary popularity, they are ready to build walls with their sister country, which is part of their same nation.
