Socialist Party leader Edi Rama appealed Prime Minister Sali Berisha to handle May 8th local elections voters list, promising that opposition’s actions will escalate.

“My appeal to Sali Berisha is to handle the voters list updated on March 8th, considered as the final list. After that this list is concluded, no more voters are allowed to move between voting centers, and this is actually happening. If we are not given access to the list, our actions against the government that tries to steal votes will escalate.” Rama said.

“We will gather the highest opposition forums to take the best possible decision, so that Albanians have the decent elections they deserve, and not another farce. We hope that reason will prevail upon force. If Berisha will choose a forceful reasoning, our respond will be what is necessary under a regime of thieves who try to manipulate Albanian voters’ free will.” Rama emphasized.

The socialist leader publicly announced the three opposition demands regarding May 8th local elections, demands that are in full accordance with the laws and Constitutions, and also feasible on time.

“I decided to break the current silence today, and explain to the Albanians that our demand is nothing extraordinary. We insist on the voters’ list transparency, based on the Electoral Code. After March 8th no voter is allowed to change his voting center. These illegal and hasty movements, imposed by the government, are taking place as we speak. These lists should be transparent and accessible to the Socialist Party and to every voter. Secondly, the Socialist Party demands the appliances used to verify voters identity cards. This is the only way to avoid falsified identity cards. The third demand is a confirmation of the transparency principle, according to which every political force can ask for a transparency check on every ballot box after the results. All of the aforesaid is in full accordance to the Albanian Constitutions and laws. Each demand is feasible in order to avoid May 8th elections failure.” Rama said.
