Preventive medicine during pregnancy

The diagnosis of malformations in babies during pregnancy still remains a serious concern for the Albanian medicine.

This demands not only good specializations of doctors, but also special equipments such as 4D ultrasounds, which can detect even during the fifth month if the baby has psychic or heart malformations, and even other problems.

“There are some malformations that can be detected by 4D equipments during pregnancy, enabling us to detect the diagnosis with accuracy and to make the necessary interventions in time, based on the diagnosis. It is very important, because this way the pregnancy does not need to advance in a more dangerous phase. The mother will not feel the entire pregnancy process, but will interrupt the pregnancy when necessary, without putting her life in danger. There is still much to do. The doctors that we have are professional, but there are many absences in technology that impede them from doing their job as they should”, says Vasil Angjeli, obstetrician-gynecologist surgeon, Hygeia Hospital.

Albanian and foreign obstetrician-gynecologists will hold a scientific conference at Hygeia Hospital, Tirana, where they will discuss about the issues with new mothers and their newborn babies.

According to Mr. Angjeli, the prenatal care in state hospitals almost doesn’t exist, while he continues to recommend women to use contraceptives.

“As for the prenatal care, before and after the birth, the particularity of this hospital is that we have specialists that are able to determine the problems of the babies even before the birth, and to treat them before and after birth. Hygeia is the only hospital in Albania that gives the entire prenatal care. This is not offered by any other hospital in Albania”, Angjeli declared.

In the scientific conference that will be held on July 2nd at Hygiea Hospital, Albanian and Greek doctors will exchange their experiences not only for obstetrics and gynaecology, but also for neonatology, anesthesia and other specialties for new mothers and their babies.
