Albanian President Bamir Topi preferred to give his messages on the first day of the local election campaign, with the young people who are voting for the first time.

The Head of the State hosted a group of students from the Political Science Faculty in Tirana University, and also students coming from other private and public universities.

“This is a special day. We invited you for making an appeal to the students that are voting for their first time. It’s April 8th, and according to the Constitutional law, this is the first day of the official electoral campaign.   In the years to come, you will have this day memorized, because it is the moment when you, with your vote, will influence the democratic electoral process in Albania”, Topi declared.

Earlier the day, President Topi participated in the graduation ceremony of the women who finished the OSCE project “Women in governing affairs”.

“Women presence increase in the government requires a positive thinking of women themselves, and their representative structures in the political parties, in the Parliament and forums. When we had an increase of the women deputies in the parliament, all of us believed in their active role for decreasing political confrontations, for increasing the chances of dialogue and creating a cooperating environment in politics. Unfortunately, the current results have been almost disappointing. The tones they use in their press releases, in their political behavior, their parliamentary rhetoric and representation concepts, we have seen no positive changes between masculine or feminine representations in the parliament”, Topi declared.

This ceremony started with the speech of the OSCE ambassador in Tirana, Eugene Wolfarth, who emphasized the significance of women involvement in the electoral process and the increase of their participation in politics, what should be also indicated on the May 8th local elections.
