The President of Albania, Ilir Meta, during his official visit in Macedonia, today was at the town of Manastir (Bitola), on the day of the Albanian Alphabet.

“The Manastir Congress was very important not only for the national literary language, for our culture and education, but also for the Albanian National Movement in general. The 36 letters of our alphabet made the Albanian language eternal, and also the history of Albanians in lands where they had been living historically and where they will historically live. With the Manastir Congress, Albanians wrote the Document of Independence in 1912”, Meta said.

The President added that Albanians should be proud after 109 years for the decisions of the Manastir Congress, which added the Albanian language to the ranks of modern ones.

“The Ochrid Agreement on August 13th, 2001, was also written with this alphabet. The freedom and respecting of Albanians’ rights in Macedonia is also written with this alphabet”, Meta said.

Meta preferred to walk on foot in Manastir, where he was received by thousands of Albanians.
