Police brutality, ACH: To be investigated

Albanian Committee of Helsinki asked transparent and independent
investigations for what happened on May 20th, when two brothers that
participated at opposition’s protest in front of Central Election
Commission building were brutally beaten by police.

“Albanian Committee of Helsinki saw it necessary to publicly react against this violence, because it is not the first time that it occurrs. This kind of beating has been noticed after protests have ended, and protesters have been followed and beaten by police”, says the media report.

According to the Committee, such and even graver beatings are considered as torture on European Commission’s Report of Human Rights regarding January 21st events, when, after the protest was over, people were stopped and beaten by police, sometimes even casual passerby citizens.

“According to data coming from the media, the Police did not deny that both brothers had been brutally beaten. They justify it by saying that Urim and Shpetim Marku have offended and contradicted police officers. The Albanian Committee of Helsinki was informed that the violence was at a scale that the two victims were obliged to be urgently sent at hospital”, says ACH reaction.
