The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, declared that they are studying a radical plan for removing plastic bags from the country.

After the 2018 “Albania without plastic bags” campaign, by July 1st, the law for banning plastic bags from supermarkets and shops has entered in effect, but all businesses are still using them.

The National Agency of Environment, in cooperation with the National Inspectorate of Environment, are the institutions in charge to monitor and fine businesses (from 1 to 1.5 million ALL) if they are found with plastic bags.

But there have been no inspection and shops aren’t even using recyclable bags.

The law bans trading plastic bags under 35 micron, but the decision has only been present on paper.
