After the Albanian President declared that the OSCE Ambassador, Bernd Borchardt, was declared non-grata to his office, the OSCE office form Vienna responded to an inquiry made by Top Channel’s journalist, Muhamed Veliu.

Borchardt traveled to Vienna this Tuesday, where he will present the annual report of the OSCE presence in Albania.

The answer was very diplomatic, leaving to be understood that the OSCE in Vienna doesn’t want to aggravate the unprecedented situation in Albania.

Their Spokesperson, Mersiha Čaušević Podžić, says: “As a long-standing partner of Albania, the OSCE encourages dialogue and cooperation with all Albanian institutions, and remains committed to offering targeted assistance and support to advancing the country’s national agenda”.

In its letter sent to the Office of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Copenhagen, the presidency said that Bernd Borchardt, who put in discussion the decree of the President of Albania regarding the local elections of June 2019 and flipped the middle finger to the Albanian people. For this reason, he is not welcome at the Institution of the President.”

The fact is that the OSCE did not hold any position against the President when he canceled the decree that decided June 30th as the local election date.

On that day, when asked by the media about his stance regarding the President’s decision, Borchard said: “The OSCE President made a very clear declaration last week. He said that the election date is an internal matter of Albania. This is a matter of internal debate. I trust that the Albanian institutions will make a wise decision based on the best legal argument”.
