During a lecture with Tirana University students, in the presence of EU
ambassadors, Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban emphasized that the
European Union cannot interfere in Albanian interior political matters.
Important for EU is fulfillment of standards in
election processes, freedom of speech, independent judicial system
and improvements in justice.

“We must be very clear on the criteria and standards that Albania must fulfill. There is no chance that any country that enters EU must change its interior rules. We must be very polite and clear. Albania is a country with its own identity and culture. No country with its own identity likes to be educated by other countries. We must respect Albanians and their culture. They do what they do in their domestic policy, because it is up to them. But if the standards are reached in free elections, independent judicial system and freedom of speech and war against corruption, we cannot educate them how to behave in their domestic policy. If there is calm and all rules will be applied, the criteria have been fulfilled. It is up to Albania to manage the political part”, Orban declared.

The Hungarian Prime Minister said that Albania is a country with a safe future, considering the average age of the population.

“Albania has a very good demographical position at this moment. It has a young population, and EU membership is not only a desire of Albania, but also in the interest of the European Union. Politically, it is not difficult to be achieved, if there is enough good will by both parties, Albania and EU”, Orban declared.

The Hungarian Prime Minister, during his lection called “New challenges for EU – the perspectives of Western Balkans”, declared that Albania is a country with a young population and this will not bring problems with the GDP or create burdens for the pension scheme.
