The “Eyes of Tirana” complex, projected by a Danish architect studio, will be raised in front of the Scanderbeg Square.

The building 24-store-high will have spaces for hotels, offices and apartments. The construction will start in 2018.

After the concerns raised by Top Channel about the non-transparent meetings of the National Council of the Territory, their Technical Secretariat reacted by explaining that their meetings are held behind closed doors by law, except for matters of special interest.

But is there special interest for the building of this high-rise building in the centre of Tirana? Top Channel reminds how the former Museum of Natural Sciences was removed after a judiciary battle with persons who claimed the land ownership. Now there will be a new building here, with a permit that was approved behind closed doors.

The former Director of the Natural Science Museum, Prof.Dr. Idriz Haxhiu, says that this institution, depending from the Tirana University, should not have been moved despite property ownership claims.

“This was a great school, with students from all over Albania coming to learn here. But authorities never considered it an educational institution, because no school has been destroyed and the owners have been compensated through other forms”, says Professor Haxhiu.

However, there has been great pressure due to great economic interests.

“The trial lasted for six years. We won at the First Instance, but in other courts, nobody cared about us”, says Idriz Haxhiu.

Now there will be a “Garden Building”, 24-store-high, and professor Haxhiu cannot perceive how such a scientific asset can be replaced by bricks and concrete.

The Museum of Natural Sciences has moved to the former building of the Army Assembly, near the Electric Market. It has 3000 types of different species and is visited by 2500 people a year.
