After an interruption that lasted more than 24 hours, the vote counting
process has started for the 65 ballot boxes in which the citizens of
Municipal Unit 5 have voted the council of this Unit.

The vote counters have started the work calmly, under the observers’ watchful eye and the political parties’ representatives who contested ballot papers time after time.

“We decided to approve the vote counting process for the Municipal Council of this unit. There were problems in the system, and we decided to work in parallel. The vote counting started and some members were divided in two groups: some observed the tabulates and others the counting. The process is continuing normally, and I believe that it will continue like”, said Ilir Goci, head of the Zonal Election Commission from the Democratic Party.

“The vote counting process had an interruption of 24 hours, because the result tabulates for the Chairman of the Municipal Council had not ended yet. These tabulates ended yesterday and were sent at the Central Election Commission without the approval of the Democratic Party members, who had some complaints that had nothing to do with the result. Today we were getting ready to start the vote counting for the Municipal Councils and the Chairmen of the Municipal Units”, emphasized Violeta Sinoimeri, Zonal Election Commission member of the Socialist Party.

This morning in this Zonal Election Commission has witnessed an event that raised many questions.

A member of this Zonal Election Commission found by chance a ballot paper for the Mayor, under the scanner of the table no.1.

“Zonal Election Commission is administering only the product that comes out of the ballot boxes. The ballot that we found was handed over to the secretary. The Central Election Commission will decide about this, because we do not have the competences to take a decision for that”, Goci declared.

Violeta Sinoimeri added “I found a folded ballot paper that had both stamps. I notified the head of the commission, Mr. Ilir Gjoni, and we signed it at the book. This will be decided by the Central Election Commission now. The ballot paper was for the Socialist candidate Rama, but this doesn’t matter. What matters is that one regular ballot paper was found outside the ballot box.”

The counters will need several days to finish the vote counting process in this Zonal Election Commission if there will be no more interruptions.

While the Zonal Election Commission 53 at Municipal Unit 9 has only five ballot boxes to count. Until now, Indrid Fortuzi, the candidate of Alliance for the Citizen is leading with 735 votes.
