The city of Augsburg in the German state of Bavaria, known as the city of peace, has inaugurated the statue of the humanist Mother Theresa in their central hospital.

The statue, carved by the German sculptor Marli Hoff was donated to the city by the Kosovo Albanian community. This ceremony was attended by the executives of Augsburg City Hall, many diplomats and the Kosovo Minister of Culture, Memli Krasniqi.

“The Minister of Culture has supported the initiative. This statue of Mother Teresa will help to deepen the relations not only between Kosovo and Germany, but also between the Albanian people and Kosovo Albanians”, said Kosovo Minister of Culture, Memli Krasniqi.

“Augsburg is the city of peace, the only city that celebrates peace on an assigned day and Mother Teresa incarnates the symbol of peace. Mother Theresa has been the symbol of hope and this is the appropriate place for her statue, because here come people who need hope and this is a gift for improving the city of Augsburg”, said vice Mayor of Augsburg, Peter Grab.

Meanwhile, one of the representatives of the Kosovo community in Augsburg, Ilir Seferi, explains how the idea for bringing Mother Teresa in Augsburg was born.

“The idea was to thank the German people that opened their doors in 1990 for us Albanians, especially for the Kosovo Albanians”, Seferi said.

After the inauguration, an official ceremony was also held in the Augsburg Municipality, where some young people paraded with traditional Albanian costumes and Albanian flags.
