Authorities at Tirana’s international airport are not allowing minors to travel abroad to their relatives, despite the special consent given by parents, as required by law.

According to sources, this order of the Border Police has created problems and caused economic damages to families that had foreseen travels abroad for their children.

According to sources, this order is about the measures against asylum seekers, since it has happened several times that Albanian minors were allowed to EU countries only to file for asylum.

The Rinas airport has welcomed more than 145,000 tourists since early June. Together with immigrants, the number goes to 256,000, at an average of 13,000 travelers a day.

Authorities say that the flux of travelers is higher compared to other years, especially through charter airlines.
