Moisiu: Kosovo is leaving Albania behind

Former Albanian President Alfred Moisiu estimates that Kosovo gave a good lesson to Albania with the fast solution of the political crisis.

On Top Channel’s “Shqip”, Moisiu took the fact that Kosovo leaders elected a woman as president as an indication that Kosovo politicians are more responsible than ours.

“Kosovo leaders gave a fast solution to the crisis. They chose a woman as President, for the first time in Balkan. This is rare even in Europe. Overcoming a crisis right after gaining independence is a victory for the Kosovans. This indicates that they think more and better for their country. Our politicians should learn from our Kosovo brothers”, Moisiu declared.

According to him, the problem in Albania is the lacking of good will from the politicians, which is a direct consequence of the absence of rule of law culture, which in Kosovo seems to exist.

“This also shows that Albanian politicians in Albania do not have good will. This is what has lacked in our political class of the last 20 years. That class in Kosovo has a rule of law culture, which in Albania still exists at low levels. The rule of law culture is very important. It’s not enough knowing the law. The law is law and should be accepted. Our politicians are able to express this in words, but in practice…” Moisiu declared.

“After more than one century of sufferings, Kosovo Albanians have understood that law should be preserved. Laws are made to be executed”, emphasized the former Head of the State.

He also explained that the problem in Albania is not the lacking of laws, but the politics that rules above the law. “Our laws have been drawn with the consultancy of the European Council and USA, but we do not have the culture that these laws are made to be executed. Between the law and the ruler, we respect the ruler”, Moisiu underlined.

Emphasizing the fact that Albania has cultivated impunity, Moisiu took Italy as an example, with Prime Minister Berlusconi under investigation, and also the former Croatian Prime Minister, Ivo Sanader, who was arrested for corruption.

“The Italian Prime Minister is facing the law. The Croatian Prime Minister too. We need a political climate that allows justice to do its job. Politics should have nothing to do there”, Moisiu added.
