The High Level Representative for Foreign Policy and Security in the EU, Federica Mogherini, spoke about an objective that they had established.

“My objective is to have an unconditioned recommendation by the European Commission for Albania, and secondly, for the European Council to decide in June to open the accession negotiations and then start them”, said the European Chief Diplomat in “Friends of Albania” meeting at the European Parliament.

Mogherini sees the accession of Albania and the entire Western Balkanas a matter of joint interests. She says that Brussels is the only one that can remove other players from the region.

“Integration is a matter of interests for the EU itself. We often talk about geopolitical and geostrategic competition in Balkan, but I say that if the EU is present in a very constant way, than there is no need for other players in the region. This is the only country in the world where the Eu can make a proper change. Do we want to exert this power?”, she asked.

As for the fight against organized crime, Mogherini said that this is a constant process.

“The fight against organized crime is a constant process. The right approach starts with the fact that we must accept that this crime exists”, she said.
