Mineworkers appeal US embassy

When Bulqize mineworkers’ strike entered its 21st day, the situation has remained the same, without any solution in the horizon.

Seeing the indifference of the state organizations, the mineworkers have asked the help of the US ambassador in Tirana, Alexander Arvizu.

The President of the Syndication Confederation, Kol Nikolla, invited the US ambassador through a press release to come and see the reality closely, with the miners.

“We appeal the US ambassador, as friend of the Albanians, to come and see the reality closer”, Nikolla declared.

42 days have passed since the mineworkers downed their tools, while 14 of them are entering the 22nd day of a hunger strike, in much deteriorated health conditions. Hospital doctors raised the alarm that the strikers have lost full immunity.

The consequent failures of the meetings between ACR and the mineworkers have brought a fatal silence for the 700 Bulqize mineworkers, whose work feeds 3500 other people.

This Monday is the day when workers should show up at the ATM-s for withdrawing their payment, but sources from inside the Company say that no payment will be made for the days when no work has been made, and this is expected to increase tension in the mineworkers’ town.
