Meta: No to last minute reforms

The leader of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Ilir Meta,
declared that the Electoral Code amends should be made now, and should
not be left for the last minute.

Regarding the idea of Constitutional changes, Meta added that those who admitted that they made a mistake once, should not hurry to repeat the same mistake.

“Secondly, the electoral reform cannot be conditioned by the constitutional amends or other changes. These matters are completely different. As for the electoral reform, there is urgency about it, and the urgency has to do with the fact that June 2013 elections are very near. We know pretty well how time flies, and in this regard we must be careful with the Electoral Code amends, in order to make them in a well-studied way, transparent, all inclusive and mature, not in a hurry”, Meta declared.

“As for the constitutional amends, it is very positive the fact that the authors of the obscure 21 April 2008 amends have admitted today that they were wrong. This doesn’t mean that we should make the same mistakes. The Constitution is the basic law of a country, and the Constitution cannot be changed each time that the political position of an individual will change, or that of a political force. The Constitution belongs to all Albanians, it was enacted by a referendum and every reviewing process should be made with great transparency. It needs its time, and should not be made under political pressure or for the interests of the moment”, Meta declared.
