Lunacek: Belgrade responsible for violence

28/07/2011 17:35

The EU Parliament Reporter for Kosovo, Ulrike Lunacek blamed Serbia for the violence in the northern part of the country.

Expressing her stance through a press release, Lunacek declared that everything was started by Belgrade and its disagreement about the borders.

According to her, the violence that took place yesterday shows that the Serbians are trying to break the dialogue with Prishtina, after Kosovo decided to establish reciprocity measures in its border with Serbia.

“Serbia started the disagreements about the borders right after the dialogue was blocked, reaching the maximum point. Serbia must immediately recognize Kosovo Customs stamps”, Lunacek declared.

The European MP emphasized that Kosovo and Serbia must turn to dialogue tables as soon as possible for resolving their disagreements.

“Kosovo and Serbian authorities must return in the dialogue table”, Lunacek declared, asking EU to pressure Belgrade in this direction.

KFOR controls border checkpoints

The Customs checkpoint no.1 in Jarina was closed due to the heavy infrastructural damages, announces KFOR press office.

KFOR notifies that the trucks were not allowed to enter through this checkpoint, while small private cars may cross the border at their own risk, although they will be searched by KFOR for guns.

Searches at border checkpoint no. 31 in Bernjak have been more intense, for security measures. KFOR announces that is continuing to land its corps in the entire Northern Kosovo area, to preserve calm, safety and to ensure freedom of movement.

Kosovo, the Parliament passes Resolution

Kosovo Parliament passed with 89 votes in favor the Resolution that fully supports Kosovo Government for establishing law and order in the entire Kosovo territory. The Parliament appeals the international community to help Kosovo through this process.

The Resolution approves the constitutional right of the Kosovo Government to exert full control in the entire territory of the republic and to respect the reciprocity measures with Serbia in all custom checkpoints.

Thaci: There is no turning back

Kosovo Prime Minister, Hashim Thaçi announced the actions undertaken by Kosovo Police in implementing the order issued by the Government two days ago.

Thaci declared that Kosovo is facing a new confrontation that is not an easy process.

“The Serbian strategy for separating northern Kosovo will never happen and will be opposed at any cost. Kosovo institutions will make use of all constitutional authority for defending every square meter of the territory, and for confronting everyone who disrespect law and order”, Thaci declared in front of Kosovo MPs.

Prime Minister Thaci assured that there would be no turning back. He invited the citizens to remain calm, to keep showing solidarity, understanding and trust towards Kosovo institutions and KFOR.
