Local municipalities receive fewer funds after territorial reform

The new territorial division has given local municipalities more territory to cover and newer competences, but not covered by higher funds.

A recent report showed that the central government should have given them 12 billion ALL more than before, according to Redi Ametllari, an auditor at the Supreme State Audit.

“The firefighters’ service is very outdated and the number of employees should be higher”, Ametllari declared.

The new territorial reform was expected to increase local autonomy, but it seems to have done the opposite, with more taxes going to the central government, such as the Income Tax.

“The law says that 2% of the income tax should go to the municipalities. It hasn’t gone yet”, Emetllari declared.
