165 students of the Kukës district have dropped out from schools during the first six months of this academic year.

The alarming figures have been officially announced by the Regional Education Directory of Kukës, ranking this district on top of the school dropout list.

89 of the students that have left 27 elementary and middle schools are females. The most common cause is the difficult economic situation but also other social factors.

“27 of 55 schools in this district have student dropouts, a number that is much above national average, which last year was 0.48%. The main causes are difficult social conditions, mentality etc”, declared Luljeta Duraku, a specialist at the Education Directory.

Another problem in this region is teacher shortage. Only 65% of the teachers have the appropriate education level, while others have not finished high pedagogic qualifications.
